IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES

Virtual
Realities

Immerse yourself in choreographed worlds where dance and technology merge. Two unique VR experiences await you

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCES

Digital Motion
Laboratory

Together with the CyberRäuber, experts in the fusion of virtual reality and theatre, Of Curious Nature has developed a dance format that enables everyone – regardless of their previous dance experience – to become a dancer in virtual space.

For the “Digital Motions Laboratory,” the artists of OCN were given digital bodies and “taught” their avatars how to dance using digital motion capture techniques.

Using a VR headset, the audience can move within the virtual space alongside the digital dancers and decide for themselves on distance and perspective. As an innovative feature, visitors to the Digital Motions Laboratory are given their own virtual hands, which they can move freely. Equipped with these, they can begin engaging in their first creative processes together with the dancer avatars.

In this way, aspects such as movement and space become directly and intuitively tangible.

Participation requires the use of a Quest 2 VR headset. Those who do not own one can rent a headset at the “Digital Motions” events for a small fee.

A VIRTUAL DANCE TALE

Virtual Reality 01

A Virtual Dance Tale

Choreografie: Helge Letonja · VR Design: CyberRäuber

“A Virtual Dance Tale” explores the new virtual possibilities of storytelling, taking the audience on a journey into an imagined future through the fusion of dance and virtual reality. By immersing themselves in this artificially created world using VR headsets, viewers encounter dancer avatars that combine fragments of human and animal forms, telling stories of origin, migration, and the relationships between living beings.

For Digital Motions, choreographer Helge Letonja and dramaturge Anke Euler already collaborated with the CyberRäuber, experts in merging virtual reality and theatre, to gradually translate the dance language of Of Curious Nature into a technology-based universe.

When we view Earth’s habitat from a different perspective, we see that we live in a critical zone of the universe—a fragile space shaped by plants for our survival. Within this zone, life gives rise to a diversity of creatures. These beings and the ways they move have long inspired dance and the work of Of Curious Nature. For “A Virtual Dance Tale,” hybrids emerge from the intertwining of real and digital bodies, allowing the artistic team to creatively explore movement beyond the human body.

DIGITAL MOTIONS

Virtual Reality 02

Digital Motions

Choreography: Helge Letonja · VR Design: CyberRäuber

Of Curious Nature takes the audience into a fascinating world where dance and technology merge into a compelling unity. Together with the CyberRäuber, experts in the fusion of virtual reality and theatre, choreographer Helge Letonja, dramaturge Anke Euler, and the company’s dancers gradually translate the dance language of Of Curious Nature into a technology-based universe. Real performance becomes digital dance. Bodies of flesh and bone are given avatars made of bits and bytes, bringing the virtual space to life with diverse movement and inviting choreographic interaction.

The audience becomes part of the production, able to contribute and express their own creativity: with the help of VR headsets, spectators step onto a virtual stage where they encounter the dancers’ avatars. Digital Motions invites the audience to playfully engage with the avatars and their movement qualities in a variety of scenes. Each visitor creates their own individual experience in virtual reality, as the boundaries between observer and dancing avatar shift with effortless ease. The VR world, with its forward-looking technology, opens up new perspectives on space, body, and movement, conveying how dance artists perceive and experience them.
